Left your bag or phone in a taxi in China?
The driver has your item and no way to find you. Everything depends on whether you have a thread back to that specific car — a DiDi trip record, or a receipt with the car number printed on it — and on how fast you pull it. Shift ends, cars get cleaned, and taxi company lost-and-found boxes fill up with things nobody ever claims.
Need us to make the call?
Emergency Rescue — $59. One stuck call, made in Chinese, reported back to you in English.

What I can do on the phone
- DiDi: walking through the app’s lost-item route and getting a message to the driver of that trip
- Street taxis: reading your 发票 (receipt) for the car number, and why it is the key to everything
- Calling the taxi company’s dispatch line and asking them to contact the driver of that car
- Asking a hotel or the place you were picked up from — many keep records of the taxi companies they use
- Filing a police loss report (报案证明) — what it needs and when your insurer or embassy will ask for it
- Following up when nobody answers on the first day
What this doesn't cover
- I can’t promise the item comes back. A taxi with no receipt is genuinely difficult, and I’ll tell you that straight rather than sell you a call.
- I don’t pay for shipping and I don’t forward money or courier fees. If it’s recovered, you arrange and pay for its return.
- I don’t file insurance claims, and I don’t act for DiDi, any taxi company or the police.
- I can’t access your DiDi account. That trip record is yours — I can’t log in for you and I won’t ask for your password.
How it works
- Send me the time, the pickup and drop-off, the payment method, and a photo of the receipt if you have one.
- I call the taxi company or the relevant lost-and-found, quote the car number or the trip details, and ask whether anything was handed in.
- You get the answer in English — including who has it, where to collect, what to bring, or a straight “nothing logged”.
Questions people ask before paying
If you have the car number from a receipt, or a DiDi trip record, yes — I can call the taxi company and ask them to contact that driver. I can’t call a driver directly with no way to identify the car.
Then the honest answer is that recovery is unlikely, and I’ll tell you so before you pay. The one thing worth trying is the taxi rank or hotel you left from — some keep records of which companies they use.
For an insurance claim, usually yes — and a loss report normally has to be filed at the station covering the place where it happened. For actually getting the item back, the calls to the taxi company matter more.
It varies by company and by item, so I’ll ask rather than guess. The general rule in China is that the sooner the call is made, the better the odds.
